Enniscorthy ASD Unit

AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER FACILITY, ENNISCORTHY VC, WEXFORD

Generally speaking ASD facilities are to be a physical extension to the existing school to encourage integration and reverse integration but this was simply not possible in this instance due to the site constraints.

The design revolves around the central activity area which consists of a double height space at the centre/ heart of the building. A single storey circulation corridor around the central activity area allows the classrooms to be accessed without interfering with the central space.

To overcome the issue of integration and reverse integration the school is proposing to use one of the 3 no. classrooms as a main stream class when occasion allows. They also hope to use the central activity area for art classes and various social events and clubs.

Every ASD facility is allowed a fit-out allowance for loose & fitted furniture. We offered the client a turnkey service and were responsible for all the loose and fitted furniture within the facility.
