This one-off private dwelling is designed as a contemporary interpretation of rural Irish architecture, carefully embedded within its landscape setting. The house is conceived as a series of simple, elongated forms arranged to create a sheltered arrival courtyard while opening out toward expansive views of the surrounding countryside.
The architectural language draws on familiar rural typologies, with strong pitched roof forms and barn-like volumes reimagined in a modern manner. A restrained palette of natural black slate roofing, dark external finishes, and warm timber elements grounds the building in its context while delivering a refined, high-quality aesthetic. Openings are precisely placed to balance framed views, daylight penetration, and privacy.
The plan is organised to clearly separate private and public functions, with living spaces orientated toward the landscape and quieter accommodation areas positioned along the linear wings of the building. Large areas of glazing connect internal spaces with terraces and outdoor living areas, reinforcing a strong relationship between house and setting.
Landscape design plays a central role in the scheme. Native Irish planting and trees are used to soften the built form, integrate the dwelling into its rural surroundings, and enhance biodiversity. The approach sequence and courtyard arrangement create a sense of enclosure and arrival, while the wider site is allowed to remain open and natural in character.
The result is a carefully crafted, bespoke home that combines contemporary design with vernacular references, delivering a calm, elegant dwelling that sits comfortably within the Irish rural landscape.
